This coming term, HELP Indoor Games Society (HIGS) promises to roll out its activities that never came to be the last term, due to the nearing AS exams. Mind you, the whole committee consists of A-Levelers. (Come on ADP, foundation, business, law, etc. students) A lot of planning has been done, and preparations are almost complete. The following is a list of the events we plan to conduct.
Indoor Games
- Designer Boardgames Play-Test Session once every forthnight.
Every month, we will be introducing 2 new designer games to members. These are rented from the supplier, and at the end of the day, will be returned. Therefore, your only chance to try out these games will be at the test drives. Please confirm your attendance through the chatterbox as we need to know how many sets to bring. - DotA Tournament in August
For all you Defence of the Ancients (DotA) fans out there, this is a chance to finally earn a reward for the skills you’ve acquired by burning holes in your pockets at cybercafes. For those of you who think you shouldn’t join despite your love for the game because you think that “I’m not good enough to win,” let me tell you, you’re letting others who really aren’t that good win simply because you weren’t there to stop them! More details on this coming soon! In the mean time, PRACTICE. So you’ll be more than good enough! - Free Foosball Games
This is not confirmed yet. Last years, HIGS was given a set amount of money for its members to play foosball for free, yet as time went on the money became less and less. And now that we have a new commitee, we have to apply for this ‘free foosball’ treat again. We’ve sent in the request. We haven’t gotten an affirmative yet, (3 months already) but we haven’t gotten a rejection either. So this week we will be going to ask Col. Goh about it. You can do your part too. Pray. - Game Convention at end 2005/early 2006
We hope to turn the DSA into a museum for designer games. There will be free plays, tournaments, and lucky draws. There will be gamers from Taylors as well. (The seeds of designer boardgaming are being sown across all major colleges alike!) Like the above, this would depend on how response for designer games is. Hopefully, it will be grow into something big in this so called college of achievers. If response is poor, well, then there’ll still be something for the loyal fans. But it’ll be called Mini-con instead of Game-con.
