Doodlebug is a community of artists, musicians, performers, and DJs based in the North-West of England, and who collaborate with people from around the world. In the past, Doodlebug have helped bring works by a number of Japanese artists to Manchester, including an exhibition of manga, a Butoh performance, and improvised musical performances.
Each year, Doodlebug holds International Doodlebug Day, where various artists congregate to create ‘doodles’—pieces of free-form art containing elements of graffiti, pop, comic, and manga art styles. Previous International Doodlebug Days have taken place simultaneously in other venues around the world, including Tokyo, and have brought guests from Japan to Manchester.
This year’s International Doodlebug Day will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2003, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Guest doodlers from around the world, including Japanese artists Yuko Kondo and Tak, will be creating their art on the windows and walls of the Cornerhouse and Kro2 bar on Oxford Road, Manchester. Attendance is free of charge and booking is only necessary if you would like to participate in the doodling.
The daytime event will be followed by Doodlebug Presents…, a live multimedia art event at the Cornerhouse from 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM. Tickets for this are GBP 5.00.
More details about these events are available on the Cornerhouse and Doodlebug websites.

Everyone’s talking about the Doodlebug club. Why? Because it’s unique. The brainchild of visionary chief Doodlebug man Barney, the club brings together various forms of leftfield entertainment – from films to live music, DJs to spoken word – to make an intoxicating whole. “Basically, it’s an intimate way to share inspiration,” Barney says. Nice flyers, too.
